Carving Up the Streets of Lagos and Beyond
Nestled in the bustling urban tapestry of Lagos, Nigeria, WAFFLESNCREAM stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of youth and the transformative power of skate culture. Since its inception in 2012, this pioneering skateboarding company has not only introduced extreme sports to West Africa but has also spun the very fabric of the region’s youth culture into a vibrant tapestry of movement, expression, and community.
A Movement on Wheels

Skateboarding in Nigeria, thanks to the relentless drive of WAFFLESNCREAM, has transcended being merely a sport. It is a movement, a culture, and a form of personal expression for the Nigerian youth. From its grassroots beginnings, WAFFLESNCREAM has built an informal yet powerful skateboarding structure that has become the lifeblood of the Lagos street scene and is steadily pulsating through other cities in West Africa.
Documenting the journey every step of the way, they have brought to life the essence of skateboarding, capturing the gravity-defying flips and tricks of local talents. More than that, they have captured hearts, inciting a shared passion and camaraderie that has seen their community grow exponentially.
The Hub of Subculture: “Shop”
In 2017, “Shop”, WAFFLESNCREAM’s flagship store, opened its doors and quickly became a crucible for the underground scene in Lagos. More than just a retail space, it is a sanctuary where Nigerian youth from diverse backgrounds can converge, share their stories, and fuel the subculture they love.

This spirit of inclusion and expression gave birth to the VIBES platform — a series of immersive events showcasing the electrifying talents of DJs, artists, and musicians who pulse through the scene. VIBES isn’t just an event; it’s an experience that embodies the soul of Lagos’ youth.
Fostering Art and Community
WAFFLESNCREAM’s journey has been a collaborative symphony. With no initial access to capital, the founders turned to the rich tapestry of local art. They hold an exhibition with the works of friends and family. This event not only funded their vision but also sparked the Friends and Family series, bridging the vibrant worlds of skateboarding and art. It’s this unique blend that has amplified their voice and etched the WAFFLESNCREAM brand into the cultural zeitgeist of Nigeria.
YASIS: A Cinematic Ode to Skateboarding
The release of YASIS, a riveting skate edit, marks another milestone for WAFFLESNCREAM. Directed by Mosako “Lowsso” Chalashika of Botswana, the film is a visual ode to skateboarding. It features an electrifying display of talent and passion from the WAFFLESNCREAM crew. It encapsulates the essence of their 2019 summer skate tour across Accra. For 13 minutes, viewers are whisked into a world of pure adrenaline and are given a front-row seat to the finesse of local skateboarders.
Paving the Way for the Future
Despite the lack of designated skating spaces in Lagos, WAFFLESNCREAM has been indefatigable in its mission to change the landscape. Working closely with the Lagos State Government, the company is on the cusp of launching West Africa’s first public skate park. This project is more than just a place to skate; it’s a beacon of hope for future generations, a promise of spaces where they can freely express themselves and enjoy the sport they love.
As WAFFLESNCREAM gears up to build more parks and expand their influence, their story is not just one of skateboarding. It is a story of community, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of a dream. In every gathering at “Shop”, and in every frame of YASIS, WAFFLESNCREAM is not just carving up streets. It’s carving out a legacy.
above all, be part of the movement. Because at WAFFLESNCREAM, every skater, every fan, and every dreamer is family.
